What an amazing book! Be prepared to cry buckets.

It was a poignant story that really left you with a sense of how important it is to appreciate life and those we love. It was an incredible emotional roller coaster of an m/m romance. There were so many nuances to this story...I could not even begin to explain the intricacies of the plot and the incredible character developments.

Amy Lane really outdid herself with this one!!!

Great story about a guy who falls for a guy who's in the closet for various reasons. I thought this was an awesome story but found the ending lacking. I would've preferred reading more about how they dealt with the aftermath of Jonathan's final decision. I find it frustrating how sometimes you have the best story but are left hungry for more because the ending isn't done as thoroughly as you'd have liked it to be.

It's been a hella long time since I've posted...so I've been bogged down with school and lots of trips to the ER but nonetheless summer holidays have begun for me and barring my recovery from surgery next week I should have more frequent posts up for the next little while.

This was a new-to-me author and I have to say that I cannot wait to read what else RJ has to offer! I absolutely adored this book! There was a great sub-plot woven through the course of the story...the main protagonists had such incredible chemistry. I loved reading about friction between them and how they came to see each other's uniqueness and flaws. It was just the perfect read for a cold winter day...I was completely engrossed by the interplay between the various characters and the twists and turns that kept coming at me. It was a heart-warming read! Gotta love the fact that it had some sizzling HOT scenes to add to the dimension of the story :-)

I have a really good reason...have spent last couple of weeks trying to get all my college apps & loans stuff done to get ready to go back to school after 8 freakin' years away from academia *argh* (mostly scared)

I started school this week and holy moly do I feel out of touch...most of the kids are just that KIDS!!! I mean it's not like I'm 100 years old (28 years old...hello!) but geesh people...majority of the student body seem to be just out of diapers!!! I feel ancient in comparison *understanding now when people used to shake their heads at me and call me young*

sigh...

Hope y'all will bear with me as I navigate my way through hell week and actually locate all my classes...I'll soon be back with more regular postings...

Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden

This latest offering from Cynthia Eden was a bone chilling, spine tingling read. I was immediately hooked on this scary yet fascinating plot. She introduced us to a very strong female protagonist, Monica, who had survived the fires of Hell and lived to tell about it. She paired this captivating heroine off with a hero who would bewitch many a hearts, Luke was the perfect challenge and balance for Monica's stoicism and control.

Ms. Eden gave us an absorbing and well developed mystery to ponder about as well as providing us with a duo, Monica and Luke who had most explosive chemistry.

I highly recommend putting this book on your must-have list...in fact I recommend running to your nearest store and grabbing a copy. This is one story that will grab hold off you and leave you breathless. I can't wait for the next installment in this captivating series.

Aana's Review:

More Than Make-Believe by Tymber Dalton was an exquisite read. I really didn't know how I'd react to it in the beginning. I've never read a story where the characters are porn actors so it was definitely an unusual theme to encounter. I was blown away by the exquisite emotional tension woven into the story. I absolutely adored both Travis and Gary, as they were both incredibly easy to fall in love with. Somehow Ms. Dalton was able to deliver the story so that the porn part of the story was muted and we were able to focus on the development of a relationship between Travis and Gary.

Travis was a really level-headed character, and I was surprised by how comfortably he adjusted to his new circumstances. Ms. Dalton wrote such a convincing story and I couldn't help but fall in love with Gary along with Travis. I was touched by Gary's commitment to his family and also felt his pain in dealing with this past relationship with a co-star. I was on my toes while reading More Than Make-Believe because I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Although Travis and Gary were so compatible and convincing, I was anxious about how their newfound relationship would translate into their regular life. I spent a good amount of time trying to hold in tears, to the point that my throat was hurting when I read the part where Travis waits for Gary and realizes that he was being stood up. I also felt Gary's pain as he commenced to participate in a shoot that he had already previously committed to and simply wasn't able to renege due to family obligations. It was just so freaking heartbreaking and I have to commend Ms. Dalton on such a brilliant execution. I felt both Gary and Travis' pain and devastation in dealing with the separation and was rooting the entire time for them to find their way back to each other.

I have to say that once again Tymber Dalton has given us a wonderfully emotional story to be entranced by. More Than Make-Believe is a must-read! It's not a story for those who might be offended by hard-core sex scenes or are squeamish about anal sex, but I think that the scenes were appropriate for the context of the story. I think that More Than Make-Believe is a hidden gem and I'm very glad that I read it.

Empress: Yes, of course. As you know, the genetics project that produced the line of female rulers began thousands of years ago on our home world, Earth. Anna's Review:

No Souvenirs by K.A. Mitchell was a bit of a challenge for me. I had a difficult time sinking into the story initially, as I was unable to connect with one of the protagonists and felt kind of detached from the whole experience. I had a bit of difficulty trying to get a handle on Jay's character, in that I felt rather disassociated from him and wasn't really sure how I felt about it. I could tell that he was a seething volcano just waiting to erupt, but I was curious to see how long I had to wait to really delve into his psyche. Shane, on the other hand, was a character that I was able to jump into instantly and could easily relate to - a very different reaction from Jay. I hesitantly continued reading and then the story just opened up and picked up speed. I got swept into it and before I even realized it, not only had I reached the end of the book, but was also left wanting for more.

No Souvenirs by K.A. Mitchell tackles one of the issues that I can personally relate to, growing up in the West while having parents from a traditional Eastern ancestry and the subsequent expectations that come with it. I think that was the key to understanding Jay. His background had a lot to do with how he dealt with life as an adult and how he closed himself from getting too close to anyone in order to protect himself from further hurt and disappointment. Shane introduced another aspect to which I was well acquainted with, the inability to find that niche in one's life where you just fit in and belong. I could definitely relate to his plight. I was also quite impressed with how he was able to confront his feelings about Jay and take the necessary steps to bring him into Jay's life. I think that K.A. Mitchell did an admirable job in showing us how two very distinct personalities could potentially have a relationship. It was very much a case of opposites attract and really that's what anchored the story for me. I was able to step into their world and view life from each character's standpoint.

I am a fan of K.A. Mitchell's work and this book certainly didn't disappoint. I may have had a slow start but No Souvenirs evolved quite nicely and I was able to sink in successfully. I thought that it made for a quiet but strong romance and it certainly delivered when it came to beautifully hot, sensual scenes and memorable characters.

Summary:

At first glance, Nando seems like forbidden territory, but when Cooper discovers a taste for being tied up and dominated, the enterprising tattoo artist delivers all the excitement Cooper could want.  

Aana's Review:

Balance by Zahra Owens is a lighthearted BDSM story that’s more of an introduction to the genre. I thought that Balance was well written and with a few exceptions had the potential of a memorable story. I was immediately drawn to the protagonists, Cooper and Nando, two men trying to veer away from how they are perceived.

Cooper was a very likeable character in that I really connected with his sense of responsibility and attitude towards life. Despite many tough breaks, he continued to persevere and that was admirable to see. It was interesting to see how despite his experience in being pigeon-holed into holding a more dominant role in past relationships, he was willing to take the chance to explore his submissive side.

I had a bit more trouble when it came to understanding Nando, I was thrown off by his willingness to let go of control with Cooper. I guess I've always thought that a sub could take on the role of a Dom a lot more easily than a Dom would have in relinquishing control. I would've liked to read more about Nando's reactions to letting go because a D/s relationship is a complex thing and I think that having more information about Nando's reactions would have made the story that much more believable.

My main contention with this story is how it was brought to conclusion. A good portion of the book was dedicated to the interaction between Cooper and Nando and how their relationship developed. I really enjoyed reading the various sex scenes and the techniques i.e. ropes and binding that was introduced. However, I felt a little cheated when it came to the ending, I felt it was rushed and that a more elaborate and detailed ending would've catapulted this story from a good read to a great read.

Netbooks???

I've been reading up and trying to make an informed decision about purchasing a netbook. I'm a bit confused by the barrage of information...At present, I have a macbook but it's a bit of a drag to take out on a regular basis (it can get really heavy). I'm planning on going back to school and am looking for something more portable that I can use for emailing and blogging and just surfing online- that's where my question comes in - How are netbooks with blogs? I'm not a tech person so when I see articles all pointing out netbooks are great for emailing and light online activity - it doesn't really address my issue of blogging. I'm not looking to sink in a lot of money into this - I want something that's reliable but affordable. Any ideas? I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.

This was an incredibly complex and sensual read. I was blown away by the growth in Ms. Penn's writing. The dynamics between the characters were well portrayed and the heat factor was off the wall. You'll absolutely adore each of the Reese brothers, they are individually incredibly captivating but as a whole...completely devastating to all your senses. You'll also relate to Amanda and her struggle to find a way to reconcile her feelings for all three of these men not to mention the social taboo behind this very complicated relationship. This is a definite keeper.

This book that I've been wanting since like 2003 (back when it was first published). My local bookstores never carried it and I was still new to the whole trying to track it down online and then it just slipped my mind. Every once in a while I would want to order it but then get distracted by other books BUT I finally did it. I ordered it yesterday through Amazon...it's only available Used but I found a copy that appears to be in great condition. I'm now jumping up & down...waiting for it to get here.

The book is Beneath the Raven's Moon by Emily LaForge...it's a gothic romance. Here's a little blurb about it...

Here are my top 10 can't live withouts (in random order)
1. electricity - I've visited Asia and experience massive daily black-outs (I can say with a 100% surety that time travelling to the past is a no-go for me...I like light waay too much)
2. Plumbing/flush toilets - an absolute necessity (no explanations there)
3. Air conditioning/heating - I live in Canada... summers here are fierce and incredibly hot... winters here are a total bitch...-thus these two items are a necessity and not so much a luxury
4. Computers aka my macbook - I'd be a lost lamb without my macbook - I need my tech fix (these fingers were made for a keyboard baby) *grin*
5. Internet - GOD BLESS THE INTERNET! I don't even want to think of a life without my internet fix...it's like air - I MUST HAVE!
6. Cellphones - always handy...it's a safety measure.
7. Public transportation - I don't drive and buses are a god-send...they get me everywhere I need to go...
8. Ebooks - there are only so many books I can keep in my apartment
9. Books - Hail to Almighty print word. I can't imagine life without my books...they help me cope with reality.
10. Fridge/stove/microwave - helllooo FOOD anyone? lol
*must also add washer & dryer - there is no way I'm able to handle the gazillion piles of dirty laundry w/o these nifty machines

My views :

This was such a beautiful story...absolutely captivating. The characters were just incredibly easy to fall in love with...Myla and Taric are such multi-dimensional characters. I was swept into the story from the first word and spell-bound till the last word...in the end, I didn't want the story to finish. There is such beauty, bittersweet pain and sensuality woven in through the course of the story. Needless to say, there were moments where my heart was hurting and my throat was seizing up from the deeply emotional scenes...I cried even while smiling through my tears. I highly recommend this book. Just be sure to keep a box of tissues close-by.

Bravo to Ms. Kelly for conveying such incredible emotions into words and making one hell of an amazing tale.

When people interrupt me while I'm reading...ummm I don't get it...do I go interrupt them when they're in the middle of a game? NO...so please people...some courtesy would go a looong way

Um...does it count that it was a field in some country in Asia and I was like 5 years old?? Yes? Okay then that would be a yes to peeing in nature.
8. Do you ever dance if there’s no music playing?
Well, there's music playing in my head...muwahahaha
9. Do you chew your pens and pencils?
Only on my own pens/pencils at home...and that's only occasionally when I run out of food

10. Is it okay for guys to wear pink?
Hell yeah! It's a great colour and some guys carry it off better than me.
11. What do you dip a chicken nugget in?
Ketchup and habenero sauce mixed together...Yum!
12. What is your favorite food?
Steak pizza, poutine, brownies...umm I could go on some more if you like...
13. What movies could you watch over and over and still love?
Blade trilogy, Enemy of the State, XXX, Queen of the Damned, The Fugitive, U.S. Marshall, Bourne trilogy, X-Men trilogy, Wolverine, Shooter, Double Jeopardy...
14. Were you ever a boy/girl scout?
Nope
15. Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine?
NO! I have a hard enough time convincing myself I look okay in clothes...forgettaboutit!
16. Can you change the oil on a car?
Nope...don't have a driver's license...don't ever want to learn how to drive...me on the road is a scary scary thought

19. Are you lazy?
Sometimes. I think it's important to give in to your lazy side once in a while...I do love to procrastinate...

I was a punked out secretary one year...sad...I know *shush...stop laughing*

Two...and some french (okay fine I know enough to get to the bathroom)
22. Who is better…Leno or Letterman?
I like Leno better...he's more human.

Yes! I love potato/onion/cheese pierogis...sooo delicious!

25. First concert?

I've never gone to a concert...crowds and I don't get along.

I haven't posted since Easter...don't know if y'all noticed...lol

I had to send my macbook (my precious) to get repaired...the cord thingie wasn't working so I sent it in but in the meantime all I had was my powerbook as a back-up and it didn't have any of my regular files making it difficult to post pics etc....BUT I'm back (I picked up my mac today...YAY!) and hopefully will be able to post more often.

Anyhoo, here's a totally yummy pic to celebrate this most awesome Friday...err Saturday for some of you already of course...
